Nowadays, anyone applying for an apprenticeship is often expected to take a Multicheck test. This aptitude test provides information about how suitable you are for the profession. It enables training companies to assess whether you are suited to the apprenticeship and whether you are likely to complete it successfully. We will guide you through the most important information about the Multicheck test and give you tips on how to prepare and choose the right Multicheck test.
What is the Multicheck®?
Multicheck® is an aptitude test that assesses academic, cognitive, and job-specific skills. Academic knowledge includes subjects such as English, mathematics, and German. Cognitive knowledge is tested by assessing logical thinking, memory, imagination, short-term memory, and concentration.
These tasks are not typical tasks that you may be familiar with from school. You will be given completely different tasks that may be new to you. However, with practice, you can master these parts of the test. Finally, job-specific skills are tested. That is why it is important to choose the right Multicheck® for the right profession. Different skills are tested depending on the Multicheck®.
Why is the Multicheck® important?
Training companies can use Multicheck to determine how suitable you are for a specific profession. However, good school grades are also an important prerequisite for training companies. The test also allows students to determine for themselves whether this profession is really right for them.
What Multichecks® are available?
Depending on the profession, Multicheck® assesses different job-specific skills and weights them differently. For example, technical understanding is weighted more heavily in Multicheck® than in retail and service. Skills such as empathy, creativity, planning, and organization can be assessed in the various Multicheck® tests.
The following tests are available to you:
• Certificate (EBA)
• Retail and service
• Health and social services
• Pharmaceuticals and chemicals
• Trade
• ICT
• Media and design
• Technical
• Business and administration
There are two further tests, but these are specifically considered entrance exams. These two tests must be taken and included in the application process and are not relevant for the search for an apprenticeship:
• Health HF
• IMS aptitude test
Which Multicheck® should I choose?
It can sometimes be difficult to choose the right Multicheck®. Training companies often specify a particular Multicheck® and indicate this. If this is not the case, you will find an overview here of which Multicheck is suitable for which apprenticeship.

When and where does the Multicheck® take place?
When you registered, you chose a time and place for the exam. So check carefully which slot you are taking your exam in and at which test location. Find out both and enter them directly into your calendar. When you register, you will find the test location and the corresponding address. You can use Google to see exactly where that is.
When should I arrive at the test location?
We recommend arriving 15–20 minutes before the exam starts. This will give you enough time to calmly discuss where you will ultimately take the exam. You are new to the location, so don't underestimate this. In addition, if any public transportation connections are canceled or delayed, you will still have enough time to switch to alternative connections. This will help you avoid stress before the exam.
How do I prepare for the Multicheck®?
On Gateway.one, you can find trial versions of the various Multichecks® to help you prepare for the test. However, these only provide a brief insight and therefore only prepare you for the Multicheck to a limited extent.
Studypeak therefore offers comprehensive preparation for all Multichecks®. We prepare you for the exam with a training area where you can practice all the skills required for the respective Multichecks®. Before the official Multicheck, you can test yourself once more on studypeak with a mock exam to see if you need more practice to achieve a satisfactory test result.
Studypeak has also developed on-site tutoring for Multicheck® to prepare you perfectly for Multicheck® and the exam situation.
When should I start preparing?
The motto “the earlier, the better” also applies here. It definitely makes sense to take a mock exam early on, as this will allow you to identify exactly where you need more practice. Depending on the results, you will need more or less preparation.
What should you bring with you to the Multicheck® exam?
Since the Multicheck® is conducted on a computer, you do not need to bring anything with you to the test. All the aids you may need will be provided.
How long does a Multicheck® take?
Depending on the Multicheck®, the test takes between 1.5 and 3.5 hours. As a general rule, the Multicheck lasts until you have completed all the tasks. There is therefore no time limit for the individual tasks. You can take as much time as you need to complete the tasks. However, the time taken will be noted when the Multicheck® is evaluated.
FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Where do I register for Multicheck®?
To register for a Multicheck®, you must register on the Gateway.one website. For more information, read our instructions on how to register for Multicheck®.
Do I get time off from school?
For the Multicheck®, an exemption may be requested from the teacher or school administration. The absence should normally be accepted.
What happens if I am ill?
If you are ill, please contact the GATEWAY Solutions AG hotline (+41 31 336 66 00). You can then reschedule your exam.
When will I receive the results of my Multicheck®?
You will receive the results 2-3 days after the test. You can then view the evaluation online with your login details.
How many points do I need for a good test result?
As with other tests, the higher the result, the better. A test result above 50 is certainly satisfactory. Ultimately, however, it depends on the training company. You decide what you consider to be a good Multicheck® result for your training company.
Can I retake the test?
Yes, you can repeat the test once per test period (for a fee). The test period runs from mid-May to the beginning of May of the following year. If you repeat the test during the same period, this will be noted in the evaluation of the second test run.
What should I do if I get bad results?
It may be useful to repeat the Multicheck® if individual parts of the test did not turn out as expected. If the test result is very low, it may be worth considering a different career. If you don't know which apprenticeships are suitable for you, you can seek advice from our experts.
