Did you take the ZAP exam and receive a very low score, or do you suspect that there was an error in the grading? If so, it may be worth considering requesting to review your exam. But how do you go about requesting to review an exam?
What is an exam review?
In an exam review, the Gymnasium entrance exam is presented and you have the opportunity to view the entire exam that has already been completed. You do not receive the exam itself, only the results are communicated. When reviewing the exam, you can see where you made mistakes, where you lost points, and how your essay was graded. This can be particularly important in the case of a close, unsuccessful result, in order to check the points, possibly discuss the correction, or simply analyze the exam for a next attempt.
When should you consider requesting access to your exam papers?
If you barely failed the exam, it may be useful to review the Gymnasium entrance exam. This will help you identify where you fell short and prepare for a possible appeal.
If you have passed the exam and would like to take a closer look at it and understand what you answered correctly and incorrectly, then reviewing the exam can also be useful.
How can I request to view my Gymnasium entrance exam results?
To view the exam, you must register. The schools set the date for viewing the exam individually. You must actively contact the respective school to arrange an appointment to view the exam. This can be done by email, telephone, or in some cases via the school's website.
What can be criticized during the examination review?
Only technical arguments can be raised, including, for example, incorrectly added points, overlooked points that are explicitly listed in the correction scheme, and overlooked points that could be considered as “similar solutions” in the correction notes. Complaints in all parts of the exam generally have a chance of success, although it is often difficult to find convincing arguments in essays.
The grading of essays is at the discretion of teachers, and it is difficult to measure the validity of an appeal. Although there are cases where schools have agreed to a re-evaluation, appeals to the education authorities are usually unsuccessful.
What should I do after reviewing my exam?
If reviewing your exam has helped you identify where you made mistakes and enabled you to study more effectively for your next attempt, then the purpose of reviewing your exam has been fulfilled. However, if you have found errors in the marking or solutions where the awarding of points is debatable, then an appeal procedure may be the right course of action.
Compensation for disadvantages
Arguments for not taking the ZAP will not be accepted retrospectively. Anyone wishing to apply for compensation for disadvantages in the examination must do so in advance.
